#287 DIY Not so good

A few weeks ago, the key ring portion of my VW Jetta keys broke off (WHAT?  REALLY?  YES!).  The key ring part wa sa plastic loop at the top of this black box.  So there was no way to attach keys at all.  Naturally I’d already lost the key once during then and now, so today I decided to take matters into my own hand.  I drilled a hole in the top right–opposite the top left where the switchblade key section is located.  It was a risk, and I took it.  And lo!  I didn’t break any electronics inside!  I could still remotely open and lock the doors.  Huzzah!

Then I tried to star the car.  Key in the ignition, turns over, shuts off.  Evidently it has determined tampering and it automatically shuts itself down.

It was a valiant effort, dear. And frankly, I just hate all cars and car makers now. Making keys that cost hundreds of dollars to replace instead of being able to go to the hardware store? What a ripoff!
